Island Lokrum
Lokrum is little island located on the southeast from Dubrovnik with surface smaller then 1km2. It cowers luxuriant vegetation, which is green all the time. It is famous place for daily trip for tourists and people from Dubrovnik, it takes about 10-12 minutes by ship. Amazing promenades and beaches are located at small bays. Biological institute and Natural historic museum and collection of Croatian scientist is located at Lokrun.
The island Lokrum, close to Dubrovnik, is the favorite excursion center of the inhabitants of Dubrovnik because of its botanical garden. There is a boat connection from the Old town's port. Island is protecting as a national park. The famous place is 10m depth and salty lake called Mrtvo more (Dead sea). Near benedict monastery was established in year 1023 and leaved at year 1798. Monastery was much damaged during earthquake in year 1667.
From the port of Dubrovnik it is just a pleasant ten-minute boat voyage to LOKRUM. An arm's stretch away from the Old City this favorite excursion spot also takes you far back in the Middle Ages. For two of us it has been the remembrance of the early days of marriage some 47 years ago. By some miracle Lokrum was spared of any devastation or destruction during the siege and bombardement of Dubrovnik. Several incinenary grenades hit the island but fire wouldn't start - not even a spark got hold on the soil covered with dry foliage or splinter.
